Conscious Sedation
Many people avoid dental care because of their fear. We believe this is tragic; especially considering that now dentistry can be delivered comfortably.
At the Dental Design Studio, we take the anxiety about receiving care, 'Dental Phobia,' very seriously. Our advanced training in Conscious Sedation allows you to receive dental treatment comfortably and safely.
Imagine not being afraid of the dentist!
What is Conscious Sedation?
Entereal (Oral) Conscious Sedation utilizes the latest medications to help you relax and receive dental care comfortably. Conscious Sedation produces an 'amnesiac' effect. Since it's very important for Dr. Parker to communicate with you, your level of consciousness is constantly regulated throughout your treatment, you just don't remember it!
Is Conscious Sedation safe?
Unlike other dentists, Dr. Parker has received extensive training in Conscious Sedation and is the only active member of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS) in Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico.
To become a member of DOCS, Dr. Parker completed advanced training in the principles of pharmacology and drug interactions of sedative medication as well as managing medical emergencies. Because of this specialized training, Dr. Parker has a higher level of licensure by the State of New Mexico to administer this specialized form of sedation.
Is Conscious Sedation safe?
Most dentists will simply give you one of the more common sedatives. But at the Dental Design Studio, we will review your health history as well as your individual concerns before prescribing the medication that is most appropriate for you.
Throughout your treatment, our highly trained clinicians monitor your status with state-of-the-art equipment, to make sure that you are safe.
Do you still use 'gas'?
Nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as 'laughing gas', is used as a component of sedation for short intervals. Even though the popular conception is that nitrous oxide is entirely safe, when used for extended periods of time or at high levels, it can be dangerous. We prefer to keep you in good health rather taking unnecessary risks, so we use nitrous oxide periodically and in conjunction with Conscious Sedation.
Can I use sedation even at my
hygiene appointments?
We advise that Conscious Sedation be used for long appointments. However, if you feel that may be required for even the simplest treatment, we are happy to discuss this with you.
At the Dental Design Studio, we find that most of our guests become comfortable receiving care after they have been here repeatedly. With time, you may be surprised that you have become less anxious about receiving dental care, and eventually may not need any form of medication for anxiety. --
